SNU Types of Membership
The SNU has 'Members' who
vote for an Executive Committee to run the company. The principle Members
are the 340 affiliated churches & centres, represented by 'Class A
delegates', and the approximate 2,400 individual
subscribing members known as 'Class B' members.
'Class A' members
The SNU has approximately 340 Spiritualist churches and centres affiliated
to it. These have autonomy in the
running of their activities but abide by a set of 'rules for
churches', published as part of the bye-laws of the SNU.
Each church, depending on the number of it's members, votes a person(s) to
act as representatives at meetings of the SNU District Council meetings
and national meetings. These representatives are known as
'Class A' members of the SNU.
'Class B' members
There are individual members of the SNU known as 'Class B' members. These
pay an annual membership fee of £24 and are entitled to vote at District Council
meeting and on some matters at national meetings.
'Class C' members
The SNU has 22 Spiritualist organisations that have a 'kindred'
association to it. Each Kindred organisation selects representatives
who may attend meetings of the SNU District Council and national meetings. These representatives are known as
'Class C' members of the SNU.
Other Types of Membership
There is a small number of Mission Churches, Kindred Bodies and Associate
bodies and these are represented where appropriate by 'Class C' members of
the SNU.
'Class D' members
Church members who wish to be in closer relationship with the SNU, although
do not want to be a Class B member, can become a Class D member of the SNU.
They pay no subscription
fees and have no voting rights, but they can attend and
speak at district and regional meetings. They also have access to the
SNU's newsletters and information circulars via their local church.
