What is the Peace Walk?

The Union’s annual Peace Walk is a day in which Spiritualists from all across the Union come together at the National Memorial Arboretum to give thanks to those Spiritualists who have served in conflict and fought for our freedoms. It is also a chance for us to consider what Spiritualism teaches about peace, as we come and walk together in the hopes of peace and unity for all.

It is a joyful, often poignant day of coming together, friendship, reflection and union.

What happens at the Peace Walk?

The Peace Walk begins with a special service in the Oak Suite of the Arboretum’s Aspects Building. This includes addresses and readings from Ministers and officials, hymns, prayers and more.

Following the service, the walk itself takes place – as those who have attended walk (buggies are made available for those with mobility/accessibility needs) from the Aspects Building up to the SNU’s own memorial monument in the grounds of the Arboretum.

The walk takes approximately fifteen minutes, though this may vary depending on walking pace.

Once everyone is gathered at the memorial (where seating is provided), a second service takes place that includes the reading of the monument plinth, the laying of wreaths and carnations, and further prayers and addresses.

After this, attendees can return to the Aspects Building for complementary tea, coffee and cake.

Important – Allergy Awareness (please read!)

As part of our commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment for everyone attending the Peace Walk, we would like to raise awareness that some attendees may have severe allergies, including allergies that can result in anaphylaxis and require emergency medical treatment such as an EpiPen.

We kindly ask attendees to be mindful of the following allergens:

  • Nuts and nut products
  • Citrus fruits
  • Pineapple
  • Pear
  • Coconut
  • Palm oil
  • Perfumes and strongly scented products

Whilst we appreciate that it is not possible to eliminate all allergens completely, we would be grateful if everyone could take reasonable steps to minimise exposure wherever possible.

By working together and being considerate of one another’s needs, we can help ensure that the event remains welcoming, safe, and enjoyable for all.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Fragrance-light Request

We have been made aware that at least one attendee has a medical condition that may be exacerbated or triggered by exposure to strongly scented products, including perfumes, aftershaves, antiperspirants, and other fragranced personal care products.

In the interests of ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all attendees, we respectfully ask that you are mindful of your use of scented products before attending this event and avoid excessive use or application of any such products.

Your understanding, consideration, and cooperation are greatly appreciated.

Thank you, and we look forward to you joining us for what is always a very special and memorable day in the SNU calendar!
