Today we share an update from the Union’s Safeguarding Manager, Gemma, as she prepares to go on an exciting short break – and provide details of where members and friends should go with any queries or concerns whilst she is away…

.

Hi everyone,

Since joining the SNU as Safeguarding Manager earlier this year, it has certainly been a busy few months!

I have really enjoyed getting to know so many of you and working with our churches, members and colleagues across the Union.

At the end of September, I will be swapping safeguarding for a yoga mat in Koh Samui, Thailand, where I will be undertaking an intensive, 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training course. 🧘‍♀️

Yoga has been part of my life for some time and has helped me to remain grounded and present, both personally and professionally.

There are also some lovely parallels with safeguarding and the work across our churches, particularly around trust, boundaries, wellbeing and the responsibility we have when supporting others.

What happens while I am away?

Safeguarding across the SNU will continue as usual. Summer Jessup will be covering the safeguarding function and monitoring the safeguarding mailbox, supported by Matthew Mold, our Church Relations Coordinator. Both Summer and Matthew are Level 3 Safeguarding trained and will also have access to support from Thirtyone:eight throughout my absence.

If you have a safeguarding concern while I am away, please continue to report it in the usual way. There is no need to wait for my return.

I will be back in October, refreshed, a little wiser and considerably more flexible! 😊

Gemma
